Treatment of Pseudomonas Endophthalmitis

Abstract
Endophthamitis is a rare but potentially devastating complication of intraocular surgeries and penetrating injury. We experienced three consecutive cases of pseudomonas endophthalmitis and performed vitrectomy combined with intravitreal
antibiotics.
Repetitive intraocular antibiotic injections or vitrectomies were performed in these cases, but all had loss of vision.
Vitrectomy with intraocular antibiotic injections for endophthalmitis has been known to eliminate the intraocular infection effectively. But pseudomonas aeruginosa are extremely difficult to eradicate and resistant to antibiotics. An earlier
total
vitrectomy rather than a partial vitretomy and repetitive intravitreal antibiotics would be recommended particularly for pseudomonas endophthalmitis.
